Self journey blog Ashville, NC. It was a trip. I had many ups and a few downs during my stay in Asheville. I loved the environment, vibes, and metaphysical space that Asheville provided. As a gay gamer tarot reader, I found the space to be conflicting with a lot of my identity.
As a gay man, the queer spaces were very, I mean very, queer. Which was great for meeting amazing people. Most of these people though were either straight men or straight/bi women at the gay bars. I honestly thoroughly enjoyed making friends with all of the women. They were open minded, sweet and overall a great time.
Now for the men. There were no gay men. Did they exist in Asheville? Yes. Did they go out? No. Most of the men at these gay spaces were straight men poaching on the women. As an outgoing and social butterfly of a gay man, I did find it uncomfortable to be constantly faced with straight toxic masculinity as they attempted to battle it out against each other for their mating rituals. It was also uncomfortable because I did feel some women were wanting to be left alone because they clearly were in a gay space.
Asheville, you can do better at providing safe spaces for the gay men and women. But at the same time, I don't want to exclude straight men. Then how do they make it more gay encouraging? Idk, but I will say if you are looking for gay men to flirt, chat, and connect, I'd find another city for that. Or use Grindr. Grindr was blowing up and it was easy to connect with a lot cute guys.
I will warn you now though. Be careful with the men of Asheville. If they broadly suggest a plan, they meant setting that plan. Be clear with your intentions with them and set expectations early so the guys can't gaslight you into thinking you are the problem. And be mindful of your energy. The men HATE bubbly, high energy. They will literally growl or aggressively shut you down so you can be "chill". As a naturally very bubbly and hyper person, I was constantly judged and hurt by their comments or actions.
As a gaymer and techy dude, I will say Asheville isn't the spot. Most people here are anti tech and don't care or support video games. Which is sad, because I could see Asheville being a central hub for green energy tech.
Lastly, as a tarot reader the place was amazing. I haven't seen a place with so many spiritual or mystical energy acceptance as I have here. I loved meeting people with so much passion in the arts of spiritual connection. I learned a lot about my craft as a tarot reader and it helped me hone my craft and identity as a reader: a gay geek tarot reader.
My plan now is to be venture into geeky culture once again through gaming, anime and cosplay conventions to see if I can setup my own space for tarot readings and provide my own spin on readings that I haven't seen yet. I plan on implementing geeky culture into my readings like cardcatpure Sakura, Pokemon, yu gi oh, and other decks into my practices so I can give more different kind of reads and experiences! And as a gay tarot reader, i have been tapping into the gay community through the local bars or virtual communities like Grindr and have had a lot success connecting with guys through my tarot.
Overall my experiences have been great and I have loved what Asheville has offered me in terms of growth and understanding. I can't wait to come back and visit again! #asheville #tarot #gay
